FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

First, we want to make sure if you’d like to receive coaching that you’ve added yourself to the waitlist.

If it’s been a while and you’re not sure feel free to add yourself again and we will make sure that you are contacted in the order you first reached out.

What is ADHD Coaching?

ACO said it best, "ADHD Coaching is a collaborative, supportive, goal-oriented process in which the coach and the client work together to identify the client’s goals and then develop the self-awareness, systems, skills, and strategies necessary for the client to achieve those goals and full potential."

For more information on ADHD Coaching check out this article from ADDA and this one from CHADD.

Do you take insurance?

Insurance plans don’t typically cover coaching, although it certainly doesn’t hurt to ask your provider. We have clients that pay through their flexible spending accounts (FSAs) offered by their employers.

Do you offer mentor coaching?

Yes! If you’re interested please sign up for our waitlist and designate “Mentor Coaching” on your form. Please also mention whether you are interested in ongoing mentorship or the 3 one-on-one sessions required by ADDCA as we can usually get you in more quickly for these.

Is my specific scenario something you can help with?

Usually, yes. However, every client is different and has their own individualized need for support. Your specific needs may also change between the time you submit to the waitlist and when we get to speak. For this reason it’s recommended that you submit your name on the waitlist to hold your spot and we can discuss all your details once we have our call.

How long does coaching take?

The coaching process requires time, openness, and effort. The duration can vary based on individual goals and circumstances. If you are looking for a quick fix, we are probably not the best coaches for you.

For Adults: The length of coaching can range from three months to three years, depending on what you want to get out of coaching and the energy and time you have to invest outside of our sessions. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable to you. Coaching is about forward movement so we will regularly review progress together and make sure that we are heading in the right direction.

For Families: Several factors influence the duration of family coaching, including the time needed to build trust and rapport with young people who probably didn’t seek me out on their own and may take time to recognize the benefits of coaching. Real changes typically start to emerge around six months, with most families requiring ongoing support beyond a year. Family coaching is a collaborative process and is not a drop-off service. The commitment and involvement of the entire family, especially the primary caregivers, plays a crucial role in the speed and effectiveness of the coaching process.

What are your current rates?

Our rates vary depending on the type of coaching and frequency. As spots open up we will reach out to you for a complimentary session. At this time we will review our current rates with you.

Do you offer scholarships?

Yes, we do have a limited number of scholarships that we can accept at a time. Please make a note when you sign up on our waitlist that you are interested in a scholarship spot and keep in mind this could extend your wait time.

How long is the waitlist?

Currently the waitlist for Bethany is approximately 9 months long (except for mentor coaching) and Tracey's is 1 month.

Clients are contacted as spots open up in the order they were added to the waitlist. The best bet if you’re not sure if you’d like services or if you’d quality is to add yourself to the list so your spot is secure. You can always opt out later if you’ve changed directions.

Do you have a list of references?

Yes. If you would like to see if another coach has sooner availability we have a list of referrals here.

What to expect?

Coaching sessions take place either in our NE Seattle office or remotely by Zoom, typically on a weekly or every-other-week basis. Sessions are usually 50 minutes long and often include time with the child alone, the parent/caregiver and child together, and at times, the parent alone, depending on the focus of the day and the family’s needs.

To keep sessions engaging, we use play-based strategies and creative tools that support learning. In some cases, your coach may be available to meet your child at on off-site location for an additional fee.

Kids & Teens:

At Compass Coaching, we help kids and teens build confidence by learning how to understand and manage their attention, emotions, activity levels, and impulsivity. Coaching supports the development of essential regulation skills and strengthens a child’s ability to navigate daily challenges with increased awareness and resilience.

We work closely with the whole family to better understand the unique needs of each child and co-create a system of support that aligns with the family’s values and goals. Our coaching approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and rooted in compassion for the lived experience of ADHD and executive function challenges.
